How to move your Grok memory, projects and tasks to Turnstone (2026)
How to export Grok memory, Projects and Tasks in 2026: add Turnstone to Grok as a custom connector and let Grok move your setup into Agents.
To move your Grok memory, Projects and Tasks to Turnstone, add Turnstone to grok.com as a custom connector, then ask Grok in a normal chat to recreate your setup as Turnstone Agents and send each one everything it knows. You don't have to give up Grok, because Turnstone can run those Agents on your own Grok account.
This guide is for the Grok chat app at grok.com and in the Grok mobile apps. If you use Grok Bot, xAI's separate product with Bots, Skills and Routines, read how to switch from Grok Bot instead. xAI's own FAQ says Grok Bot "is not the same as Grok on grok.com."
Grok learns a lot about you over time, and there's no button that exports it to another app. We make Turnstone, a free, model-agnostic app that runs a team of AI Agents on the AI plans you already have, Grok included. We built a way for Grok to move its own setup. Everything here was checked on October 28, 2026. Grok's menus move often, so if a label looks different, look for the closest match.
Where does Grok keep what it knows about you?
Before you move anything, it helps to know the pieces.
- Memories. Grok can use your past conversations to personalize its answers. The controls sit in Settings, then Data Controls. Some accounts now show a Memory page there, but xAI doesn't document a full memory list for grok.com. The most reliable way to see what Grok remembers is to ask it. Private Chats aren't saved to your history, so Grok can't pass those on.
- Projects. A Project keeps its own instructions, files and chats in one place. Projects reached all users in August 2026. xAI's FAQ says to use grok.com in Chrome, because some other addresses are missing features like Projects.
- Custom instructions and personas. Your global custom instructions live in Settings, then Customize. Since March 2026, guides report a "Your Agents" section there, with up to four named personas, each with its own instructions. Not every account shows it the same way.
- Tasks. Scheduled prompts at grok.com/tasks. You pick daily, weekly, monthly or yearly, and results come by email or app notification.
- Connectors. Apps like Gmail, Google Drive and Outlook that you signed in to at grok.com/connectors.
Our guide to AI agent memory explains how these kinds of memory differ across apps.
How do I move my Grok setup to Turnstone?
Turnstone has a hosted MCP server, a standard way for one AI app to use another app's tools. Add it to Grok as a custom connector, and Grok can create Turnstone Agents and send them work. Grok does the copying.
- Install Turnstone on your Mac and sign in with the AI you want your Agents to use. To keep using Grok, sign in with your Grok account. You can also pick ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Cursor, OpenRouter, Ollama, or your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key.
- Copy your MCP link. In Turnstone, open Settings, then MCP and webhooks, and click Copy MCP link.
- Add it to Grok as a custom connector. Go to grok.com/connectors, click New Connector, then choose Custom. Paste the link as the MCP server URL. Don't paste it into a chat.
- Sign in and allow access. Grok opens a Turnstone sign-in. Use the same Turnstone account that's signed in on your Mac, and allow the connection.
- Ask Grok to move your setup. Start a new chat on grok.com and paste the prompt below. If Grok doesn't use the connector, tell it to "use the Turnstone connector" by name.
- Watch the Agents appear. Each new Agent shows up in Turnstone with its name and job, and a first message marked "From Grok."
- Check each Agent. Read what it received, open its memory and correct anything that's off, reconnect its apps, and pick its model.
Keep Turnstone open and signed in on your Mac the whole time. Your Agents run there, so they can't receive work while it's closed.
Which plans can add a custom connector? xAI's docs say connectors "are available to all Grok users." Some guides say custom connectors need a paid Grok plan. Check grok.com/connectors on your own account. If you see New Connector and Custom, you're set. If not, use the manual way further down.
On Grok Business or Enterprise, a team admin has to add the connector first. xAI's docs say the admin signs in to console.x.ai, opens Grok Business, then Connectors, clicks Add Connector, chooses Other and enters the MCP URL. After that, each member connects their own account at grok.com/connectors.
The prompt to paste into Grok
Using the Turnstone connector, move my Grok setup into Turnstone.
For each Project I use, and each custom agent or persona I've set up,
create a Turnstone Agent with a clear name and a one-paragraph job.
Then send that Agent one message with everything it needs: its
instructions, everything you remember about me that matters for it,
key facts and decisions from our past chats, any files it relies on
(summarized in detail), and any of my scheduled Tasks that belong to it,
with their timing and the full prompt, so it can set them up as Schedules.
Also create one Agent called "About me" and send it everything you
remember about me in general, plus my custom instructions word for word.
Write it all out in full, don't summarize away details.
Tell me when every Agent has its message.
Why it's shaped this way. Through the connection, Grok can create an Agent with a name, a short job and a first task, then send it more work and check its replies. The job is short, about 1,000 characters. The first message can run up to 100,000 characters, so everything else goes there.
If Grok can't see one Project from another chat, open a chat inside that Project and run the prompt there, asking it to move only that Project.
What moves and what doesn't
Turnstone only gets what Grok writes in its messages. It can't reach into Grok's memory or chat history on its own. That's why the prompt asks Grok to write everything out.
| In Grok | In Turnstone |
|---|---|
| Memories | Sent to the "About me" Agent and the Agents they matter to, and saved in one shared memory of your people, projects and decisions, which you can open and correct |
| A Project | An Agent with its own name and job. Its instructions arrive word for word |
| Project files | A detailed summary. The original files stay in Grok, so download any you still need |
| Custom instructions | Sent in full to the "About me" Agent |
| Custom agents or personas | One Agent each, with its own name, job and instructions |
| Tasks | Sent with their timing and prompt, and set up as Schedules |
| Connectors | 60+ apps built in (like Gmail, Outlook, Slack, Notion, LinkedIn, iMessage and WhatsApp), any website through Turnstone's own browser, the apps on your Mac, and connectors you add. You sign in again |
| Chat history | Only the facts and decisions Grok writes out. Old chats stay in Grok |
| The model | Grok, or any other AI you pick, chosen per Agent |
Logins never move, in any tool. You connect your apps again in Turnstone.
Can I keep using Grok after I move?
Yes. This isn't really leaving Grok. You're bringing your memory and setup with you into Agents that can keep running on Grok.
In Turnstone, each Agent has its own model, and you can switch it mid-chat. Your research Agent can stay on Grok while your inbox Agent runs on ChatGPT, and they share one memory. Usage counts against your own plan's limits. Turnstone doesn't sell credits or add a meter. Our guide to using your Grok subscription in other apps covers how that sign-in works, and our facts page lists every AI Turnstone runs on.
Moving doesn't delete anything from Grok either. Your chats, Projects and Tasks stay where they are until you remove them.
What if I can't add a custom connector?
You can do the same move by hand. It takes longer, but it works on any plan.
- Ask Grok to write everything out. Paste the prompt below into a new chat, and run it again inside each Project.
- Copy the answer.
- Start an Agent in Turnstone and paste it in as your first message. Ask the Agent to save what matters to memory and to set up each Task as a Schedule.
Write out, in plain text: everything you remember about me, my custom
instructions word for word, the name and instructions of each of my
custom agents or personas, and the instructions and a detailed summary of
the files in this Project. List every scheduled Task I have with its
timing and full prompt. Don't leave out details.
Keep your own backup too. xAI's consumer FAQ says you can download your data from Settings, then Data Controls, on grok.com or in the app.
What does Turnstone do differently from Grok?
Be honest with yourself about the trade. Grok Tasks run on xAI's servers, so they keep going when your computer is off. Turnstone runs your Agents and their Schedules on your Mac today. Cloud, an iPhone app and a web app are coming soon. There's no Windows, Linux or Android app. Grok also works on the web, iOS and Android, and has things like Grok Imagine and voice. You can keep using all of that.

Questions
Can I export my Grok memories? Not as a neat list. xAI doesn't document a memory export for grok.com. The best way is to ask Grok to write out everything it remembers about you. With the Turnstone connector, Grok sends that straight to your new Agents.
How do I move my Grok Projects to another app? Ask Grok to write out each Project's instructions and a summary of its files. With Turnstone, Grok creates one Agent per Project and sends it all in the first message. Download any original files you still need, because they stay in Grok.
Where do I add a custom connector in Grok? Go to grok.com/connectors, click New Connector, then Custom, and enter the MCP server URL. On Grok Business or Enterprise, an admin adds it in the xAI console first.
Do I need a paid Grok plan to connect Turnstone? xAI's docs say connectors are available to all Grok users, but some guides say custom ones need a paid plan. Check your own account. If you can't add one, use the manual copy and paste method.
Do my Grok Tasks move over? Grok sends each Task's timing and prompt, and the Agent sets it up as a Schedule. Run each one once and check it before you rely on it. Then pause the old Task at grok.com/tasks so you don't get two of everything.
Does Turnstone need to be open while Grok moves my setup? Yes. Your Agents run on your Mac, so keep Turnstone open and signed in with the same account you used to connect Grok.
Is Turnstone a Grok alternative or an add-on? Both. You can keep every Agent on your Grok account, or move some to ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. Each Agent picks its own model.
