Can you use your ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok subscription in other apps?

Can you use your ChatGPT subscription in other apps? Yes for ChatGPT and Grok, only via Claude Code for Claude, and no for Gemini. A dated guide.

Quick context about me first…Quick context about me first…Quick context about me first…

Mostly yes for ChatGPT and Grok, only through Anthropic's own Claude Code program for Claude, and no for Gemini. Anywhere outside those official routes, an app needs an API key and a separate bill.

You pay $20 or more a month for an AI plan, then a new app asks for a second subscription or an API key. Can the plan you already pay for do the work there? Today only each company's own help pages answer this, one product at a time, and the rules changed several times in 2026. This guide puts all four side by side, as of October 28, 2026.

The short answer for each provider

Can you use your ChatGPT subscription in other apps?

Yes. OpenAI supports this on purpose. Its help page says that with a Go, Plus or Pro plan "you can also choose to use your ChatGPT plan for AI requests in participating commercial apps and sites that support this feature." Those requests "count toward the ChatGPT Work and Codex usage included in your plan," and you can set a weekly limit for each app.

OpenAI's partner list includes Amp, Conductor, Devin, Hermes Agent, Kilo Code, Notion, Vercel and Warp. OpenClaw, OpenCode, Pi and T3 are listed as open-source integrations, and "supported open-source tools remain available to all ChatGPT users."

Separately, OpenAI's open-source Codex (the command-line tool, IDE extension and app) supports ChatGPT sign-in on every plan, including Free and Go.

  • It's the same allowance. OpenAI says "connecting an app does not add a new allowance."
  • Sources differ on Go. OpenAI's DevDay recap says plan usage is for "Plus and Pro users." The help article also lists Go. Business workspaces aren't mentioned.
  • The app doesn't get your chats. Using your plan "does not by itself give the app or site access to your ChatGPT conversations or memories."

Can you use your Claude Pro or Max subscription in other apps?

Only in one way. You sign in to Anthropic's own Claude Code program, unmodified, with your own account. An app can run Claude Code for you, but it can't offer its own "log in with Claude" button.

Anthropic's legal page says: "Anthropic does not permit third-party developers to offer Claude.ai login into their own applications, or to route requests through Free, Pro, or Max plan credentials on behalf of their users." Sign-in "must complete through Anthropic's own flow."

The same page has a carve-out. The rule does not "prevent an end user from signing in to the unmodified Claude Code binary with their own Claude subscription, including where a platform hosts Claude Code." Platforms that run Claude Code can't modify it or remove its sign-in options. The page also says advertised Pro and Max limits "assume ordinary, individual usage."

That usage comes out of your normal plan. Chat, Claude Code and Cowork share one pool that resets every five hours, with weekly limits on top.

How the Claude rules changed in 2026

  • January 9: OAuth tokens were reportedly blocked in third-party tools such as OpenCode (WinBuzzer).
  • February 19: Anthropic's docs were updated to ban using plan OAuth in "any other product," including the Agent SDK, according to press reports (Gigazine).
  • April 4: Anthropic said Claude subscriptions would no longer cover third-party tools like OpenClaw. Those tools needed extra usage or an API key (The Register, Engadget).
  • April 21: Anthropic said OpenClaw-style use through the Claude CLI was allowed again (Hacker News).
  • May 13: Anthropic announced a separate Agent SDK credit starting June 15. It paused that change on June 15 (Zed).
  • June 15: Anthropic's help note said "Claude Agent SDK, claude -p, and third-party app usage still draw from your subscription limits."
  • October 7: A newer note says "nothing changes for your plan." Max and Team plans now include monthly API credits, which work when you use an API key.

Where the sources disagree. The June note mentions "third-party app usage." The October note doesn't mention third-party apps at all. The legal page says third-party apps can't offer a Claude login. The safest reading is the narrow one: your plan works in the official Claude Code program, signed in through Anthropic's own flow. Anything else may bill as extra usage or stop working. Check again before you rely on a setup.

Can you use a Gemini (Google AI Pro or Ultra) plan in other apps?

No. Google is the strictest of the four.

Google said that "on June 18, 2026, Gemini CLI and Gemini Code Assist IDE extensions will stop serving requests for Google AI Pro and Ultra." Paid API keys kept working, and subscribers were pointed to Google's own Antigravity CLI.

Antigravity's terms go further. "Using third party software, tools, or services to access the Service (e.g. using OpenClaw with Antigravity OAuth)" is "a breach of this Agreement" and "may be grounds for suspension or termination." In February 2026, people reported bans on Pro and Ultra accounts that used OpenClaw this way, and suspension reports continued into the fall.

So apps that offer Gemini models reach them through a Gemini API key or a service like OpenRouter, not your Google AI plan. See Turnstone vs Gemini Spark.

Can you use your Grok or X Subscription in other apps?

Yes, in some tools. On May 25, 2026, xAI opened its Grok Build command-line tool to "all SuperGrok and X Premium Plus subscribers." You install it and "sign in with your account." A few days earlier, xAI posted "Use your SuperGrok or X Premium subscription inside OpenCode." Hermes Agent and Kilo Code also offer Grok sign-in.

On October 12, xAI launched The X Subscription. Its paid tiers share "a generous pool of Grok model usage shared across Grok and Cursor." Existing SuperGrok and X Premium plans continue. xAI's FAQ says paid users get "one shared weekly usage pool," and Build draws from it.

Where the sources disagree. Engadget says the $8 Plus tier includes Grok Build. xAI's own pricing page doesn't mention Build at all. Hermes's docs warn that Grok sign-in can fail with an HTTP 403 error because of tier limits. And Grok Bot itself picks its own model, so it can't run on your other plans. See Turnstone vs Grok Bot.

Apps that run the official tools with your sign-in

This is the route that fits the rules above. The app runs the provider's own tool, and you sign in through the provider's own page.

  • OpenClaw can reuse a Claude Code login on the same computer and is one of OpenAI's open-source integrations. Its docs warn that "Anthropic can change Claude Code billing and rate-limit behavior without an OpenClaw release." See Turnstone vs OpenClaw.
  • Hermes Agent is on OpenAI's partner list. Its docs call consumer subscriptions "the single most common source of billing surprises." Its built-in Claude sign-in needs Max plus purchased extra usage. For Claude Pro, the docs warn that it "looks like it should work" but doesn't. Since September, an experimental official plugin routes Pro or Max through Claude Code. See Turnstone vs Hermes Agent.
  • Turnstone. We make Turnstone. It's a free, model-agnostic Grok Bot alternative that runs on the AI subscriptions you already have. For ChatGPT and Claude plans, Turnstone runs the official Codex and Claude Code apps on your Mac, and you sign in with your own account through the provider's own login. Usage counts against your own plan's limits. Turnstone doesn't add credits or a meter. It also runs on Gemini, Grok, Cursor, OpenRouter, Ollama (local models) or your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key. Each Agent has its own model, and you can switch mid-chat. It's on Mac today. Cloud, an iPhone app and a web app are coming soon.

Your own API key

Every provider sells API access billed per token, and almost every app accepts a key. It's the most reliable route, but it's a separate bill. One useful detail: since October 7, Claude Max includes $100 (5x) or $200 (20x) a month in API credits, and Team gets up to $500 pooled. Those credits work with an API key from your linked Claude Console account, not with chat.

Apps that sell their own AI credits

Some agent apps bundle the AI and charge for it. Grok Bot uses the X Subscription's pool, with top-ups when you run out. Hermes's easiest setup points you to Nous Portal, whose paid plans run $20 to $200 a month. It's simple, but you pay twice if you already have ChatGPT or Claude. See the best Grok Bot alternatives for how the main options charge.

Questions

Can I use my ChatGPT Plus subscription in another app? Yes, if the app is in OpenAI's "Sign in with ChatGPT" program or uses OpenAI's Codex. Requests count toward your plan's ChatGPT Work and Codex allowance, and you can set a weekly limit per app.

Can I use my Claude Max subscription with other tools? Only through Anthropic's own Claude Code program, unmodified, signed in through Anthropic's own flow. Other apps can't offer a Claude login or pass your credentials along. Tools that call Anthropic another way usually bill extra usage or need an API key.

Does using my plan in another app give me more usage? No. It's the same allowance you'd use in the provider's own app. OpenAI says "connecting an app does not add a new allowance."

Will I get banned for using my subscription in a third-party app? On the official routes, you're using the product as the provider describes it. Google is the clear risk. Its Antigravity terms say third-party access "may be grounds for suspension or termination," and users reported bans in 2026.

Can I use my Google AI Pro plan in Gemini CLI? Not anymore. Gemini CLI stopped serving Google AI Pro and Ultra on June 18, 2026. Paid Gemini API keys still work there.

Can I use my SuperGrok subscription outside the Grok app? Yes. Grok Build, OpenCode, Hermes Agent and Kilo Code support Grok sign-in. Usage comes from your Grok weekly pool.

Is an API key cheaper than a subscription? It depends on how much you use. A key bills every token, so light use is cheap and heavy agent work can cost far more than a flat plan.
