Grok Bot pricing explained: what xAI's agent app costs (updated October 2026)
Grok Bot pricing, checked October 28, 2026: which X Subscription plans include xAI's agent app, how the weekly pool works, and if Grok Bot is free.
Grok Bot isn't sold on its own. Since October 12, 2026 it comes with The X Subscription on Premium ($30 a month), Super ($100) or Ultra ($200), and it is not included on the Free plan or the $8 Plus plan.
Quick note on names first. Grok Bot is xAI's agent app, where named Bots do work for you on a cloud computer. It is not the Grok chatbot. xAI's own FAQ says "Grok (the chat app from SpaceXSI) and Grok Bot are two different apps." Many "Grok pricing" pages cover the chatbot, and some Grok Bot pricing pages still list plans from before October 12. This guide covers Grok Bot only, as of October 28, 2026.
How much does Grok Bot cost?
You get Grok Bot through a plan that includes it. There are three ways in.
- The X Subscription. This is the new plan from xAI that bundles Grok, Cursor and X. It launched on October 12, 2026. Grok Bot is on Premium and up.
- A legacy Cursor plan. If you already paid for Cursor before the switch, every paid individual plan and self-serve Teams still includes Grok Bot.
- A linked Grok or X account. SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy and X Premium+ can be linked to your Cursor account to get Grok Bot. SuperGrok Lite can't.
| Plan | Price per month | Grok Bot? | Usage |
|---|---|---|---|
| X Subscription Free | $0 | No | Limited |
| X Subscription Plus | $8 | No | Base amount, Grok models only |
| X Subscription Premium | $30 | Yes | 4x Plus |
| X Subscription Super | $100 | Yes | 15x Plus |
| X Subscription Ultra | $200 | Yes | 50x Plus |
| X Subscription Teams | $30+ per user | Yes | 4x to 50x Plus |
| Enterprise | Custom | Yes, ask your account team | Pooled |
| Legacy Cursor Pro, Pro+, Ultra | $20, $60, $200 | Yes | Weekly allowance |
| Linked SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy | $30, $100, $300 | Yes | Weekly allowance |
X Subscription prices are from cursor.com/pricing and xAI's launch post, checked October 28, 2026. Legacy Cursor and SuperGrok prices are from Lindy's Grok Bot explainer, last updated October 12. The pricing page shows monthly prices only and says they exclude taxes and fees.
xAI pitches Premium as SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+ in one plan, "previously $90/month combined." So the $30 buys more than Grok Bot. If you only want the agent, you still pay for the bundle.
Two rules to know. Linking a SuperGrok plan is permanent, and so is moving from a legacy plan to The X Subscription. And plans don't stack. With a Cursor plan and a linked SuperGrok, Grok Bot uses whichever gives more.
What's in the weekly pool?
Your Grok Bot usage comes from a weekly pool. xAI doesn't publish how big it is. The pricing page only shows it as a multiple of the Plus plan, like "4x Plus" on Premium. TechSifted gave Grok Bot 5.5 out of 10 for "limits transparency."
On The X Subscription, that pool is shared. xAI's docs say Grok Bot "draws from the weekly shared pool across Grok, Grok Bot, and Cursor." So coding in Cursor, chatting with Grok and running your Bots all come out of the same weekly amount.
Here is what counts against it:
- Steps and tokens, not messages. One short request that kicks off a long task can use a lot.
- Every Bot reply. That includes replies in group chats and messages Bots send to each other.
- Routines. Scheduled and triggered runs use the pool even when there is nothing to report. A Builder.io reviewer wrote that her "16 shiny new bots burned $100", mostly on Bots "waking up, thinking it over, and deciding they had nothing to tell me."
You also can't choose the model. Grok Bot picks one for each task and there is no model picker, so you can't steer a task to a cheaper model yourself.
What happens when you run out?
It depends on which plan you are on.
| You are on | When the weekly pool runs out |
|---|---|
| The X Subscription | Buy prepaid credit, turn on Auto Top-up, or wait for the weekly reset |
| Legacy Cursor plan, on-demand off | "Grok Bot stops when weekly usage runs out" until the weekly reset |
| Legacy Cursor plan, on-demand on | Grok Bot keeps going and extra usage is billed through Cursor |
| Legacy Cursor Teams | On-demand is on by default, so extra usage is billed |
What catches people out:
- A limit doesn't stop a run already going. Cursor's help page says "A limit is not a hard stop in the middle of a run." A long task can go past your cap before it stops.
- There is no Grok Bot-only cap. xAI's teams docs say "A separate Grok Bot spend cap is not available today." Limits cover the whole account.
- No warning before paid usage. On a Cursor forum thread, staff confirmed the spend order is weekly allowance, then promo credits, then paid on-demand. A user complained there was no warning before the switch to paid usage.
- Some features just go quiet. Tagging @bot on X does nothing if your weekly usage is used up.
People have hit the weekly limit fast. One report described a user on Ultra who used up the week on day one and waited six days for the reset.
Is there a free way to use Grok Bot?
Not on an ongoing basis. The Free and Plus plans don't include Grok Bot.
There is a trial. xAI calls it "a usage credit, and a 7-day window also applies." It never turns into a paid plan. But the FAQ says "One big task can use all of it, and used credit is not restored." Treat it as a test drive, not a free tier.
If you already pay for a legacy Cursor plan or SuperGrok, Grok Bot costs you nothing extra. That is the closest thing to free.
For a free agent app with no trial clock, look at tools that run on an AI plan you already have, or at open source. Our list of Grok Bot alternatives covers both, including free self-hosted picks.
What does it cost if you already pay for ChatGPT or Claude?
Most pricing pages skip this. Many people already pay for ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro, both $20 a month. Grok Bot can't use those plans. It runs on its own pool, so adding it means paying for a second AI plan.
We make Turnstone. It is a free, model-agnostic Grok Bot alternative that runs on the AI subscriptions you already have. Here is how the monthly totals compare.
| What you pay for now | Add Grok Bot | Total with Grok Bot | Add Turnstone | Total with Turnstone |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT Plus ($20) | X Premium, $30 | $50 | Free | $20 |
| Claude Pro ($20) | X Premium, $30 | $50 | Free | $20 |
| ChatGPT Pro or Claude Max (from $100) | X Premium, $30 | From $130 | Free | From $100 |
| Legacy Cursor Pro ($20) or SuperGrok ($30) | Already included | $20 or $30 | Free | $20 or $30 |
| Nothing yet | X Premium, $30 | $30 | Free, plus an AI plan | Your AI plan's price |
To be fair to Grok Bot, the $30 Premium plan also gives you SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+. If you want those anyway, the math changes.
How Turnstone works with a plan you have: for ChatGPT and Claude, it runs the official Codex and Claude Code apps on your Mac, and you sign in with your own account through the provider's own login. Usage counts against your own plan's limits. Turnstone doesn't add credits or a meter, so there is no second pool to track. It also runs on Gemini, Grok, Cursor, OpenRouter, Ollama for local models, or your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key. Each Agent has its own model, and you can switch it mid-chat.
You get a team of AI Agents that work across 60+ apps built in, like Gmail, Slack, Notion and iMessage, plus any website through its own browser and the apps on your Mac. Agents run on Schedules. They can send email, Slack messages and iMessages from your own accounts. All your Agents share one memory of your people, projects and decisions, which you can open and correct. If you already built a Grok Bot, you can import it from its public x.ai link.
The honest trade-offs: Turnstone is Mac only today, with no Windows, Linux or Android app. Cloud, the iPhone app and the web app are coming soon. And a $20 plan has its own limits, so heavy Agent work can still run into them. Grok Bot runs in the cloud with your laptop closed and has apps on every platform. Our Turnstone vs Grok Bot page goes through the full comparison.
Questions
Is Grok Bot free? No. Grok Bot is not on the Free or $8 Plus plans of The X Subscription. There is a trial credit with a 7-day window, but one big task can use all of it.
How much does Grok Bot cost per month? The cheapest new way in is X Subscription Premium at $30 a month. Super is $100 and Ultra is $200, with bigger weekly pools. Existing paid Cursor plans and linked SuperGrok plans also include it.
Is Grok Bot the same as Grok? No. Grok is xAI's chatbot. Grok Bot is a separate agent app where Bots work on a cloud computer. On The X Subscription they do share one weekly usage pool.
How big is the Grok Bot weekly limit? xAI doesn't say. The pricing page only shows each plan as a multiple of Plus, like 4x on Premium and 50x on Ultra. Usage is measured in agent steps and tokens.
Can I set a spending cap just for Grok Bot? Not today. xAI's docs say a separate Grok Bot spend cap is not available. Account-wide limits apply, and a limit doesn't stop a run already in progress.
Can I use my ChatGPT or Claude plan with Grok Bot? No. Grok Bot picks its own model and bills its own pool. If you want an agent app on the ChatGPT or Claude plan you already pay for, Turnstone is free and runs on those plans.
