# How to move from Perplexity Computer to Turnstone: Spaces, memory and tasks (2026)

**The easiest way to move from Perplexity Computer to Turnstone is to let Perplexity do the copying. Add Turnstone to Perplexity as a custom connector, then ask it to recreate each of your Projects as a Turnstone Agent and send each one your memory, instructions and scheduled tasks.**

There is no export button for Perplexity memory, and Perplexity has renamed Spaces to Projects, so a lot of what you've built lives inside the app. We make Turnstone, a free, model-agnostic Perplexity Computer alternative that runs on the AI subscriptions you already have. Turnstone doesn't run on Perplexity's models, so this is a real switch, not a sync. Everything was checked on October 28, 2026. Menus in both apps move often, so look around if a label has changed.

## How do I move from Perplexity Computer to Turnstone?

Turnstone has a hosted MCP server. When you add it to Perplexity as a custom connector, Perplexity can create Turnstone Agents and send them messages in an ordinary chat. Perplexity says custom remote connectors work in "conversations and Computer workflows" on Pro, Max and Enterprise. They aren't on the Free plan.

1. **Install Turnstone on your Mac** and sign in with the AI you want your Agents to use: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Cursor, OpenRouter, Ollama or your own OpenAI or Anthropic key.
2. **Copy your MCP link.** In Turnstone, open Settings, then MCP and webhooks, and click Copy MCP link. You paste it where Perplexity adds connectors, not into a chat.
3. **Open Perplexity's connector page.** Go to Plugins in the sidebar. If you don't see Plugins yet, go to Customize, then Connectors.
4. **Add a custom connector.** Choose Add custom, then Add MCP connector, and pick Remote.
5. **Fill in two fields.** Name it "Turnstone" and paste your link into MCP server URL. Turnstone uses standard OAuth with dynamic client registration, so you don't need a Client ID or secret. If OAuth isn't already chosen, set it under Advanced, then Authentication.
6. **Tick the risk box and click Add.** Perplexity asks you to confirm you understand that custom connectors "can introduce risks." The Turnstone card then appears on your Plugins page.
7. **Click the card to sign in.** Use the same Turnstone account that's signed in on your Mac, and allow access.
8. **Paste the prompt below** and let Perplexity work. Each new Agent appears in Turnstone with its name and job, and Turnstone marks where its first message came from, something like "Perplexity via MCP."
9. **Check each Agent.** Correct anything that's off, connect its apps and pick its model.

On Enterprise, an admin has to switch on "Allow members to add custom connectors" first. Perplexity says it's off by default.

Here's a prompt you can paste:

```
Using the Turnstone connector, move my Perplexity setup into Turnstone.
For each Project I use, create a Turnstone Agent with a clear name and a
one-paragraph job. Then send that Agent one message with everything it
needs: the Project's instructions in full, everything you remember about me
that matters for it, key facts and decisions from our past sessions, a
summary of each file and link it relies on, and every scheduled task or
Automation tied to it, with its timing and what it does, so it can set
them up as Schedules. Also create one Agent called "About me" and send it
everything you remember about me in general. Write it all out in full,
don't summarize away details. Tell me when every Agent has its message.
```

### Tips that make the move go better

Turnstone only gets what Perplexity writes out. It can't reach into Perplexity's memory or history on its own.

- **Run the prompt in Computer if you use Brain.** Perplexity's help center says Brain works only in Computer sessions, and Search can't access it. A Computer session uses credits like any other Computer task.
- **Move one Project at a time if it misses things.** Project instructions apply inside that Project. Open each Project and run the prompt there, asking it to move only that Project.
- **Paste in your scheduled tasks.** Your scheduled tasks and Automations are listed on the Automations dashboard at perplexity.ai/computer/automations. If Perplexity doesn't list them all, copy each one's timing and wording into the chat yourself.

Turnstone runs your Agents on your Mac, so keep it open and signed in while Perplexity sends the work.

## What moves and what doesn't

| In Perplexity | In Turnstone |
|---|---|
| A Project (formerly a Space) | An Agent with its own name, job, memory and model |
| Project instructions, up to 8,000 characters | Sent in full in the Agent's first message |
| Project files and links | Sent as summaries. The files themselves don't move, so keep your originals and add what you need |
| Memory (Notes, search history, Brain) | Sent as text and saved in one shared memory of your people, projects and decisions, which you can open and correct |
| Scheduled tasks and Automations | Sent with their timing and set up as Schedules. Event triggers become scheduled checks |
| Connectors (400+ built in, plus custom) | 60+ apps built in, like Gmail, Outlook, Slack, Notion, LinkedIn, iMessage and WhatsApp, plus any website, the apps on your Mac and connectors you add. You sign in again |
| Credentials in the credential vault | Don't move. You sign in again |
| Models picked by Perplexity, paid in credits | The AI plan you already have, on its own limits. No credit meter |
| Runs in Perplexity's cloud | Runs on your Mac today. Turnstone Cloud is coming soon |

Logins and connected app accounts never move, in any tool. Your session history stays in Perplexity unless you ask it to write out what matters.

## How do I export my Perplexity memory?

You can't download it as a file. Perplexity's Memory help article describes viewing and deleting memories, not exporting them. Here's where each part lives.

| What to save | Where it lives in Perplexity | How to save it |
|---|---|---|
| Memories | Settings, then Memory, then Manage memories | Read the list and copy what matters. You can search and filter it there |
| Brain | Max only, and only in Computer sessions | Ask Computer, "Write out everything Brain knows about me, my people and my projects" |
| Project instructions | In the Project's settings, on Context or General | Copy them into a doc |
| Project files | Inside each Project | Keep your own copies. Files added from a connector are "one-time copies," so the original may be newer |
| Scheduled tasks | The Automations dashboard | Write down each task's timing and what it does |

## What if my plan can't add connectors?

On Perplexity Free, or an Enterprise workspace where members can't add custom connectors, move by hand. It's slower but it works.

1. In Perplexity, ask: "Write out, in plain text, everything you remember about me, my instructions, and the key facts and decisions from our sessions. Don't leave out details."
2. Ask the same inside each Project, plus a summary of its files.
3. In Turnstone, start a chat with an Agent, paste what Perplexity wrote, and ask it to save it to memory.
4. For each scheduled task, tell the Agent in plain words, for example "every weekday at 8, summarize new emails from customers," and it sets up a Schedule.

## What does Perplexity do better?

- **Search and citations.** Research with sourced answers is what Perplexity is built for. If most of your work is research, that may outweigh everything else here.
- **Many models in one task.** Computer picks models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI and others for different steps of one task. In Turnstone, each Agent uses one model at a time, and you can switch it mid-chat.
- **The cloud.** Perplexity's scheduled tasks run "in the cloud, so your laptop doesn't need to be open." Turnstone runs on your Mac today. Cloud, the iPhone app and the web app are coming soon.
- **Event triggers.** Automations can start when something happens in Slack, Gmail, Outlook, Linear or GitHub.
- **More devices.** Perplexity has apps for Windows, iPhone and Android. Turnstone is Mac only today.

In Turnstone you get a team of Agents, each with its own job, memory and Schedules, on the AI plan you already pay for, with no credits on top. Memory is plain files on your Mac that you can open and correct. Our [Turnstone vs Perplexity Computer](https://myturnstone.ai/comparisons/perplexity-computer) page goes through every difference, and our [facts page](https://myturnstone.ai/facts) lists what Turnstone does today.

## What should I do in Perplexity after the move?

1. **Run each new Schedule once while you watch.** Make sure it does what the old task did.
2. **Pause the old task.** On the Automations dashboard, open the task's Actions menu and choose Pause. Perplexity says each run uses credits, and a paused task keeps its schedule and history in case you need it.
3. **Check your credits before you cancel.** Perplexity says purchased credits only work with an active paid plan.

If you're moving from Grok Bot too, the steps are almost the same. See [how to switch from Grok Bot](https://myturnstone.ai/blog/switch-from-grok-bot).

## Questions

**Is there a Perplexity Computer alternative without credits?**
Yes. Turnstone runs on the AI you already pay for: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Cursor, OpenRouter, Ollama or your own OpenAI or Anthropic key. Usage counts against your own plan's limits, and there's no credit balance in Turnstone.

**Can I export my Perplexity memory?**
Not as a file. Perplexity lets you view and delete memories under Settings, then Memory, then Manage memories. To move them, ask Perplexity to write them out, either to a Turnstone Agent through the connector or into a chat you copy by hand.

**What happened to Perplexity Spaces?**
Perplexity renamed them Projects. A Project holds instructions, files, links, connectors and Computer tasks. In Turnstone, each Project becomes an Agent.

**Can I add Turnstone to Perplexity on the Free plan?**
No. Perplexity says custom remote connectors are for Pro, Max and Enterprise. On Free, use the manual way: ask Perplexity to write everything out and paste it into a Turnstone Agent chat.

**Do my Perplexity scheduled tasks move?**
They move as text, and each new Agent sets them up as Schedules. Event-triggered Automations become scheduled checks. Pause the old tasks in Perplexity once the new ones work.

**Can I use Perplexity's models in Turnstone?**
No. Turnstone doesn't run on Perplexity. You pick ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Cursor, OpenRouter, Ollama or your own key for each Agent. You can keep Perplexity for research and use Turnstone for the rest.
